Nicolás Correa, a European leader in large-scale milling machines

TLDR: Nicolás Correa (Burgos, Spain, founded in 1947, listed on the stock exchange since 1989) is one of the European leaders in large-scale milling, with fixed-bed, moving-column, gantry and travelling-gantry ranges, and more than 900 bridge-type machines installed worldwide.

Founded in 1947 in Burgos, Nicolás Correa established itself as one of the European leaders in large-scale milling, with production concentrated in Spain and 90% exported to more than 20 countries. The manufacturer offers one of the widest milling ranges on the market — fixed bed, moving column, fixed gantry with moving table, moving gantry with fixed table and travelling-gantry configuration — for sectors demanding high material removal: energy, aerospace, rail and automotive. Correa adopted box-in-box technology very early on for the design of its rams and moving columns, with ram-extension correction systems among the most advanced on the market, as well as specific thermal regulation solutions on the vertical axis of its Fox range.

A range of 100% mechanical milling heads, renowned for their robustness

TLDR: Correa deliberately favours mechanical milling heads (including the patented UAD head) over electronically compensated solutions, with the aim of a stable geometry over time and a high chip-removal capacity on hard materials (Inconel, titanium).

Correa deliberately relies on mechanical systems rather than electronic compensation, with the aim that the machine keeps its geometry over the long term. The UAD milling head, patented by the manufacturer, illustrates this approach: fully mechanical, with no fragile internal components, it offers high accuracy and angular clamping rigidity (in the region of two hundredths of a degree over 360°) in all positions, for a torque that can exceed 1,300 Nm on the most robust configurations. Correa indexed heads keep their geometry thanks to their gear-mounting system and real-time thermal-expansion correction, which limits the need for the self-calibration cycles required on other brands. Each spindle is tested at the factory for several dozen hours before delivery.

Correa heads and spindles covered (non-exhaustive list)

  • Automatic UAD mechanical milling heads, high torque
  • Universal dual-orientation heads, manual or automatic (U series)
  • ISO 40 angle heads mounted on the ram, with automatic changing system
  • Machining centre spindles with ISO 50 and SK 40 tapers
  • High-speed motor spindles with ceramic bearings, HSK 63

Interfaces and specifications

ISO 40
ISO 50
SK 40
HSK 63

The Correa heads and spindles we repair come mainly with ISO 40, ISO 50 and SK 40 interfaces on large-scale gantry and moving-column milling machines, as well as HSK 63 on more compact machining centres fitted with high-speed motor spindles, with typical power ratings of 27 to 32 kW and torque that can exceed 600 Nm on the most robust mechanical heads.

Frequently asked questions

Do you repair the UAD mechanical milling heads?

Yes, we work on these 100% mechanical heads, taking into account their gear-mounting system and real-time thermal-expansion correction.

Do you work on the universal dual-orientation heads, whether manual or automatic?

Yes, we diagnose and repair these heads, whether they are manually controlled or automated.

What is the average lead time for a full overhaul?

Allow around 20 working days in the workshop, depending on the condition of the head and the availability of parts (bearings, seals, specific components).

Do you work directly on site for large heads?

Yes, our team travels to diagnose and, where possible, work directly on site to avoid the complete removal of bulky and heavy heads.

Do you offer a preventive maintenance contract for a fleet of Correa machines running continuously?

Yes, we set up preventive maintenance programmes tailored to your production rate, particularly relevant for workshops operating 24/7.
