Fooke, a German family business specialising in large-format milling machines

TLDR: Fooke GmbH (Borken, Germany, with origins dating back to 1904) has for over 30 years been manufacturing large and very large 5-axis milling machines, mainly in the form of gantry-type milling machines, for the aerospace, rail freight and automotive industries.

Originally founded in 1904 as a bicycle manufacturer with its own forge, the family-owned Fooke business gradually refocused on machine building from 1930 onwards, becoming today a recognised manufacturer of large and very large-format 5-axis milling machines. For more than 30 years, Fooke has been designing ENDURA® range gantry-type milling machines, favoured by demanding customers in the aerospace, aeronautics, rail freight and automotive engineering sectors, as well as for the design of mock-ups, prototypes, tooling and moulds. The manufacturer also offers friction stir welding (FSW) systems, a complementary technology increasingly used in the assembly of aerospace structures.

A range of high-performance milling head spindles, linear motor technology

TLDR: Fooke's ENDURA® milling machines feature fork-design 2-axis milling heads, with a high-performance spindle in HSK 63A interface reaching up to 16,000 rpm at 34 kW, all driven by linear motors with no intermediate mechanical components.

The gantry-type milling machines of the ENDURA® range (600LINEAR to 1100LINEAR) feature a fork-design 2-axis milling head paired with a high-performance spindle. The linear motor technology characteristic of the range does away with traditional mechanical components such as gearboxes, bearings, ball screws or rack-and-pinion systems, resulting in machines that are more rigid, more reliable and more precise. On the range's typical configurations, the spindle reaches 16,000 rpm in HSK 63A interface, for a power of 34 kW (65 kW total installed power). Older models, such as the ENDURA 5 series, used an SK 40 taper with speeds of up to 15,000 rpm for 15 kW.

Frequently asked questions

Do you repair the fork-design 2-axis milling heads of ENDURA® milling machines?

Yes, we work on these heads, taking into account their high-performance spindle and linear motor technology.

Do you work on the HSK 63A spindles of the most recent configurations?

Yes, we diagnose and repair these spindles, regardless of the configured rotation speed.

What is the average lead time for a complete overhaul?

Allow around 20 working days in the workshop, depending on the condition of the head and the availability of parts (bearings, seals, specific components).

Do you work on the SK 40 spindles of older ENDURA models?

Yes, we diagnose and repair these spindles, regardless of the age of the machine.

Do you offer a preventive maintenance contract for a fleet of Fooke machines?

Yes, we draw up preventive maintenance programmes tailored to your production rate, particularly relevant for aerospace and rail workshops.
