Ikegai, Japanese machine tool pioneer since 1889

TLDR: Ikegai Machine Tools (founded in 1889, Japan) is a historic Japanese builder of high-precision lathes, multitasking lathes, special-purpose machines, honing centres and horizontal boring mills, and the origin of the very first lathe manufactured in Japan.

Founded in 1889, Ikegai built from the outset the first lathe designed in Japan, before diversifying into diesel engines and printing machinery in the early twentieth century. Between the 1960s and the 1980s, the manufacturer developed its CNC lathes and honing centres, then introduced U-axis technology on its machining centres in the 2000s. Today, Ikegai remains a recognised name for its high-precision lathes, multitasking lathes, special-purpose machines, honing centres and horizontal boring mills, serving demanding sectors such as aerospace, shipbuilding and rail.

A range of robust spindles for precision turning and honing

TLDR: Ikegai TU and TUR series CNC lathes use an A2-8 nose spindle, with a spindle bore of up to 100 mm and two speed ranges (low and high), for typical power ratings of 30 to 35 hp.

Ikegai TU and TUR series CNC lathes use an A2-8 nose spindle, with a spindle bore of up to 100 mm (4 inches) for a bar capacity of 3.5 inches. The spindle runs in two speed ranges, typically 600 rpm in low range and 2,500 rpm in high range, for a motor power of 30 to 35 hp. On configurations fitted with live tooling, several tool heads at different angles can be mounted on the 12-station turret for additional milling and drilling operations. Ikegai honing centres, for their part, use spindles specifically sized for high-precision internal finishing operations.

Ikegai spindles covered (non-exhaustive list)
