Voumard grinding spindle repair
Brochexpress is an independent workshop specializing in the repair, maintenance and diagnostics of Voumard grinding spindles — a Swiss pioneer of internal cylindrical grinding, now part of the Kellenberger group, renowned for its high-frequency, very-high-speed spindles.
Voumard, Swiss pioneer of internal cylindrical grinding since 1939
TLDR: Voumard (founded in 1939 in Saint-Imier by Bertrand Voumard, Kellenberger group since 2014) is a pioneer of internal and external cylindrical grinding, behind the first CNC internal grinding machine as early as 1981.
Founded in 1939 in Saint-Imier by Bertrand Voumard, the company made its breakthrough from the outset with the VM 33 internal grinding machine, produced in series after being unveiled at a trade show in Zurich. Voumard went on to develop a complete range of internal grinding machines, with more than 5,000 machines sold up to 1954. A technological pioneer, the company unveiled the first CNC grinding machine in 1981 (type 400 CNC), followed in 1993 by the first CNC cam grinding machine, then in 1998 by the first Siemens-controlled machine for simultaneous internal and external grinding. Part of the Kellenberger group since 2014, the Voumard brand retains its own expertise in high-precision internal grinding, with customers in the automotive, aerospace, bearing, tool and machine-tool spindle manufacturing sectors.
A range of very-high-speed internal grinding spindles
TLDR: Voumard grinding machines feature high-frequency internal grinding spindles, available in single or twin configuration, with rotation speeds of up to 45,000 to 120,000 rpm depending on the model, mounted on hydrostatic axes of nanometre precision.
Voumard machines, such as the 1000 model, are based on a kinematically flexible design with two hydrostatic linear axes and two rotary axes, guaranteeing positioning accuracy in the nanometre range thanks to HYDROLIN® technology. The spindle turret on the B1 axis is fitted with a compact grinding spindle head able to accommodate up to four different internal grinding spindles, for maximum flexibility according to the operation to be carried out. On the entry-level Voumard 30 model, one or two high-frequency internal grinding spindles arranged in parallel offer rotation speeds of 45,000 to 120,000 rpm depending on the configuration, combined with a workhead and a high-precision X/Z cross table.
Voumard spindles covered (non-exhaustive list)
- High-frequency internal grinding spindles, single or twin configuration
- Spindles on a multi-position turret, up to four interchangeable spindles
- Spindles mounted on HYDROLIN® hydrostatic axes
- Grinding spindles for long shafts and machine-tool spindles (with steady rest)
- Spindles dedicated to centreless grinding and complex forms
Interfaces and specifications
The Voumard grinding spindles we repair typically have rotation speeds between 45,000 and 120,000 rpm depending on the model and application, mounted on hydrostatic axes of nanometre precision — specifications to be confirmed on quotation according to the exact reference of your machine.

Frequently asked questions
Do you repair very-high-speed internal grinding spindles (up to 120,000 rpm)?
Yes, we work on these spindles, taking into account their specific precision and balancing requirements at very high speed.
Do you work on multi-spindle turrets fitted with several internal grinding heads?
Yes, we diagnose and repair each of the spindles mounted on these turrets, whether single or twin.
What is the average lead time for a full overhaul?
Allow around 20 working days in the workshop, depending on the condition of the spindle and the availability of parts specific to these precision technologies.
Do you work on spindles dedicated to grinding machine-tool spindles?
Yes, we diagnose and repair these spindles, a frequent application segment for Voumard machines.
Do you offer a preventive maintenance contract for a fleet of Voumard machines?
Yes, we set up preventive maintenance programmes tailored to the criticality of this equipment, particularly relevant for precision grinding workshops.
